Manchester United worry as Martial pulls out of France group training

Manchester United are sweating on the fitness of Anthony Martial after the striker was pulled from France’s training group with a back issue.

The forward missed several chances to score in the side’s 1-0 Nations League win against Portugal on the weekend but Didier Deschamps expressed his happiness with the striker’s performance, saying he has ‘matured’ in the last 18 months.

France are due to face Sweden tomorrow in Paris and Martial had been expected to start again, as he seeks to build on one goal in 25 appearances for his nation.

However, Martial has been struggling with a back injury in recent weeks and he was unable to train with the main group on Monday night through fear that he could exacerbate the problem.

United will be hoping France are taking all the necessary precautions to protect Martial and it could mean that he could miss tomorrow’s game.

Martial has endured a stop-start campaign for United so far, having missed three league matches following a red card against Tottenham.

United face West Brom on Saturday at Old Trafford and Martial had been expected to start as the Red Devils look to put a difficult start to the season behind them.

However, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could hand a full debut to Edinson Cavani should Martial not be 100% fit.
