The representatives of Lille defender Gabriel Magalhaes are in the UK to negotiate a move for the defender, with Manchester United and Everton battling it out for his signature.
United have identified Borussia Dortmund and England winger Jadon Sancho as their priority transfer target this summer but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is also keen to bring in a central defender to partner Harry Maguire.
Maguire has largely impressed since joining from Leicester in a world-record £80million switch but the Englishman’s lack of mobility has been exposed on several occasions in his debut season and the Red Devils are scouring the market for a centre-back with pace.
Lille’s Gabriel has been firmly on United’s radar in recent weeks but the club face stiff competition from their Premier League rivals for the 22-year-old’s signature.
According to Sky Sports, Gabriel’s representatives are currently in the UK and talking to two English teams, with United and Everton among those interested.
Gabriel underwent a medical with Everton before the lockdown but the Merseyside outfit have so far failed to finalise a deal for the centre-half.
The Brazilian is expected to make a decision on his future over the coming days.
Napoli were weighing up a bid for Gabriel but have since cooled their interest in the youngster.
Lille completed the signing of Sven Botman from Ajax this week and the Dutchman is being viewed as a possible long-term replacement for Gabriel at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy.
It’s understood Lille will listen to offers of around €30million (£27m) for Gabriel.
Gabriel made no secret of his ambitions to play in the Premier League when quizzed about Arsenal’s reported interest earlier this year.
Asked whether he could see himself joining the Gunners, he told Telefoot: ‘Maybe, I don’t know.
‘But I would love to play in the Premier League.’
